That we are one of the first

Here are the girls which make up our current flock at Ollies Chirpy Chickens.
They have been chosen as they are fantastic egg layers (between 280 – 340 eggs in their first year!), are hardy but placid, so make really great pets and have stunning plumage which makes them a beautiful addition to any garden!
All our girls live happily together & are free to roam, though we do put them away at night to protect them from Mr Fox! You can come along, meet them and choose which ever ones catch your eye, or, we can guide you depending upon your personal requirements. Our own laying flock has all the birds in it, as we love the mix of colours, as well as the array of egg colours. We have hens from each breed for you to pick from in specially adapted stables so don’t worry about having to chase them around a paddock – though you are most welcome.

If you are worried about them flying off and escaping from your garden, then just ask us to clip their wings for you (don’t worry, its the same as doing your toe nails or having a hair cut!)
If you can bring something to take them home in then great (large cardboard box or pet carrier if you have one), though we have boxes available if you forget, so please don’t worry.
When you get your chickens home for the first time, it is very important that they wake up in the morning where you want them to live; over the next few days just make sure they are going in and out of their house from the run, after that, they will always find their own way home.
RANGER
She is the classic chicken, a mixture of a golden brown and cream. Rangers are fantastic egg layer and you can expect up to 340 in her first year!
She is very robust yet placid so makes a great pet for the kids or to mix into a flock.

BLUE HAZE
This is our favourite as she is a stunning blue / grey colour with lots of fluff – a bit of a show girl!
She is a superb domestic bird with a sweet nature and lays about 280 creamy brown eggs in her first year

WHITE
This girl is an elegant chicken, smaller in build than the others who lays pure white eggs (approx 300 in her first year).
She is rather fast on her legs and can be quite a character.

SKYLINE BLUE EGG LAYERS

COUCOU
She is a French Maran based hybrid and has a beautiful speckled coat which hasd a soft velvet touch.
She has an excellent balance of egg colour (rich brown), shell quality and production (280 eggs in her first year).

COPPER BLACK
She is also a French Maran based hybrid and has a beautiful majestic black coat with a dark green sheen and copper ruffle.
She also produces high quality eggs (300 eggs in her first year) with a percentage being very dark brown.

AMBER
She is either plain creamy white or has amber markings within her.
She is slightly heavier than the white and lays cream coloured eggs, approx 300 in the first year.

LIGHT SUSSEX
This bird is one of the oldest breeds in existence today.
She is alert but docile and adapts well to new surroundings making her extremely popular. She lays 260 eggs in her first year.

BURFORD BROWN
The Burford Brown is famous for her deep brown eggs with a thick shell and lovely sheen but it is her social temperament and placid nature that makes her a favourite with us.
They make great pets for people with children and each one will lay around 180 eggs in her first year.
Please note, these birds come from a speciality smaller breeder and therefore do not have the full vaccination programme as with all our above birds.
